About the Instrument
The BASDAI was developed by Garrett and colleagues at the Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases, Bath, to give patients with ankylosing spondylitis a simple way to report their own disease activity.
What It Measures
Five core symptoms of ankylosing spondylitis: fatigue, spinal pain, joint pain/swelling, areas of localised tenderness, and morning stiffness (severity and duration).
Digital Administration
Delivered electronically through the PROMinsight platform as part of a digital patient-reported outcomes workflow.
Scoring / Reporting
Six 0–10 visual analogue responses are combined using a defined formula (averaging the stiffness-duration items before combining with the other four) to give a single 0–10 disease activity score.
