Helping Vision Collaborative Scotland evaluate the quality of life impact of support services for children and adults with low or no vision.

February 23, 2026

In a 2023/24 survey, Vision Collaborative Scotland uncovered a fragmented and inequitable professional rehabilitation service for people with low or no vision in Scotland, with no evidence of the impact of existing services on patient outcomes.

In response to this concern, the Collaborative is undertaking a first-of-its-kind international research study to evaluate the impact of vision rehabilitation and habilitation services on individuals’ quality of life. This is a collaboration with the University of Melbourne and Glasgow Caledonian University

PROMinsight is proudly supporting this effort by providing our Impact of Vision Impairment questionnaire for adults (IVI and VLV-IVI) and children (IVI-C) via our online ePROM platform. To date, IVI data have been collected with 125 adults and 9 children across 10 sites in Scotland.

The study began in 2025 and is running to mid-2026. The findings of this important study will enable Vision Collaborative Scotland members to demonstrate the value of vision rehabilitation to service commissioners across the country. They  will also  provide valuable guidance for  refining current services and developing  new resources.

“The IVI questionnaires offer a standardised way to evaluate vision-specific quality of life outcomes. Most importantly, they cover areas relevant to both children and adults impacted by vision loss. Working with PROMinsight to implement their tools in our evaluative work within the low and no vision community has been enlightening and informative”, commented Vision Collaborative Scotland Chair, Susan Shippey.

The study will run until mid-2026; results will be analysed and a publication is planned for later this year.
