Implementing IVI-CAT in corneal clinics at LV Prasad Eye Institute
April 17, 2026
A new collaborative study between PROMinsight and the L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI) in Hyderabad is showcasing how innovative patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs) can enhance the evaluation of surgical care. Using the IVI-CAT (Impact of Vision Impairment Computerized Adaptive Test), the study assessed patients before and after corneal transplantation in a cohort of over 200 individuals. This partnership highlights a shared commitment to embedding patient perspectives into routine care through scalable, technology-enabled solutions, even within complex, high-volume clinical environments .
The results underscore the profound impact of corneal transplantation—not only on vision, but on patients’ overall quality of life. Significant improvements were observed in visual functioning, alongside even greater gains in emotional well-being. Importantly, patients valued the opportunity to express their experiences through the IVI-CAT platform. As one participant shared, “I am feeling happy by participating in this study as I got an opportunity to express my feelings and difficulties with my eyesight which I am not able to do in the clinic because everyone is so busy and there is no time.” Others highlighted the ease of use of the digital system, noting that “responding to the questions on the tab is very much like doing it on a mobile, so it is easy.” These insights reinforce the importance of capturing patient voice alongside clinical outcomes .
The collaboration also demonstrated how PROMs can be successfully implemented in diverse, real-world settings. Despite challenges such as varying literacy levels, language differences, and limited familiarity with digital tools, the study achieved high acceptability through multilingual delivery and interviewer support. This work between PROMinsight and LVPEI illustrates how combining methodological innovation with local clinical expertise can overcome practical barriers and deliver meaningful, patient-centred insights. As healthcare systems increasingly prioritise value-based care, such partnerships are critical in shaping more inclusive, responsive, and effective models of care worldwide.
