About the Instrument
Developed by RAND from the Medical Outcomes Study in the 1980s, the RAND-36 is a public-domain generic health survey that shares its items with the commercially licensed SF-36 but uses RAND’s own scoring approach.
What It Measures
Eight health domains: physical functioning, role limitations (physical and emotional), social functioning, pain, general and mental health, vitality/energy.

Scoring / Reporting
Items are scored and averaged per the RAND scoring manual into eight 0–100 domain scores.
