About the Instrument
The DEQ-5 was validated by Chalmers, Begley and Caffery as a brief screening version of the longer Dry Eye Questionnaire, designed to quickly discriminate dry eye severity.
What It Measures
Frequency and intensity of ocular discomfort and dryness, and frequency of watery eyes.
Digital Administration
Delivered electronically through the PROMinsight platform as part of a digital patient-reported outcomes workflow.
Scoring / Reporting
Five item scores are summed to give a total score, with higher scores indicating more severe dry eye symptoms.
Use in Research / Clinical Care / Clinical Trials
Used as a quick dry eye screening and severity tool in optometry/ophthalmology research and practice.
